This documentation is created to convey the idea and purpose behind TCET Linux. It assists new users in understanding the true motive of TCET Linux and how it can be beneficial in the realm of engineering life. The documentation covers aspects such as the introduction to TCET Linux, the rationale behind its creation, variants, releases, installation steps, guides, and contributing to TCET Linux.

Major contribution and efforts behind creation of this documentation is from tcet-opensource/documentation#360, tcet-opensource/documentation#354, tcet-opensource/documentation#331 @MJ665 @Akash6222 @beans9926 @Dibya112 @saashaspace and there were some helping hands to make this documentation reliable @vish-rt @NikitaSShukla @himanshu-03

This is the 2nd major release in the beta release engineering phase for TCET Linux.

The following changes are applicable since release v0.1-beta. This release has major contributions from @Akash6222

  • Default shell changed from Bash to Zsh
  • Zsh Completion
  • Powerlevel10k theme + Source Code Pro font
  • Autosuggestions
  • Fzf (Package finder + keybinding & completion)
  • Fast-syntax-highlighting
  • McFly & history substring search (zsh history management)
  • Systemwide Firewall
  • Utility packages (VLC Media Player, gvfs(virtual filesystem for external devices) , galculator (calculator app)
  • New Default wallpaper from (@khushi-06)

Next release onward, the project would move into the beta stage. We encourage developers from other teams to participate in beta testing of the ISO.

TCET Linux Beta Release Engineering

With this release, we move into public beta testing phase for TCET Linux.

The following fixes are applicable following the previous alpha release.

  1. Keyring issue fixed by @Akash6222
  2. Add firmware for mediatek & marvell chips (@demonkillerr)

Following features and changes are being evaluated:

  • z shell with powerlevel10K
  • Welcome app
  • BORE scheduler for linux kernel

The ISO contains:

  • Linux Zen Kernel (we are evaluating kernels at the moment)
  • Z Standard compressed initramfs image
  • Installer with configs
  • Firmware, gcc, base-devel packages
  • Wallpaper (from @khushi-06), logo(from @SwanshTCET) and themes

Pre-release

This release contains:

  1. Stock XFCE
  2. Linux Zen Kernel
  3. TL Installer + dependencies
  4. Installer Config
  5. Firefox

Changes:

  • GRUB recognizes and print TCET Linux on the boot screen
  • NEOFETCH correctly display user information
  • INSTALLER correctly launches from menu

Issues:

  • Post-installtion, systemd doesn't automatically initialize and populate keys. This causes the user to manually initialize and populate the keys. This behaviour is not found in the Live ISO.
