Suggestion: Let new players choose about dynamic camera #1217
Comments
And how would a new player know what to choose? |
I was thinking about a window with both options and the explaination of them, like: [ x ] Dynamic Camera ON When knowing both benefits and cons, the player can try and compare hisself. AND he knows that it exists and why. |
I'm not sure, if this is the right way to do it. If we have the player decide on a lot of options, before he even get's into the main menu, it might be a little daunting... |
I believe this is what many open source projects do wrong. Instead of providing sane defaults, or even just defaults at all, some try to let the user make a lot of decisions up-front, before they actually know the game (the software). I would consider not having to go through a lot of settings at the first start a feature. We should try to keep it to a minimum. |
Even with the explanations the players couldn't make a valid decision unless they actually tried it for a while. So don't see much use in letting the players choose between dynamic cam on/off up front. |
I think the player should have the option to play a tutorial map / gametype (see #38) when he first starts the game. After some shooting practice the player is asked if he wants to enable / disable dynamic camera. |
I'm with heinrich on that one. Teeworlds should just be jump-in-and-play. There is already quite a lot of setup at the beginning which should be removed too, imho. It really is well visible in the settings and everyone who would like something changed will look there. Having dynamic camera on is the saner default for casual gamers and beginners at Teeworlds imho. What is acceptable is a separate tutorial/configuration mode that offers you to turn things like dynamic crosshair on and off. Downside of this is that new players might feel obliged to go through that even if it's quite unnecessary. The bigger downside is: who'd code it? The are more important things to do. tl;dr Keep it like it is. |
Won't fix - it stays the way it is. |
It could be part of the tutorial |
According to this thread: https://www.teeworlds.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=110834#p110834
I propose to add a popup with two options, Dynamic Camera On / Off, to the first-run setup ("enter your name" etc.).
