Environment

  • TeXstudio: 4.3.1
  • Qt: 6.3.1
  • OS: Windows 10 Home x64
  • TeX distribution: MikTeX 22.7.30

The bug

I saved a LaTeX file under a name containing diacritics (more specifically, the character "ț"). After compilation (with XeLaTeX), TeXstudio complained that "No SyncTeX data available". It was enough to change "ț" into "t" (i.e. to get rid of the diacritics), in order for SyncTeX to work properly.

Interestingly, it seems that the same bug bothered TeXWorks some time ago: TeXworks/texworks#601.

It is a known shortcoming of synctex. Since synctex development seems to have stalled, there is not much hope that this will be resolved.

@sunderme: I have just tested this issue with TeXWorks 0.6.7, and synchronization works just fine even when there are diacritics in the file name. This means that the bug that I am reporting must be elsewhere, most probably in TeXstudio.

SyncTeX development seems active on GitHub.

This seems to be an incorrect statement.
On win10, cyrillic filename does not work for texworks 0.6.8.
