A port of Zaer's work commited to Hatestation, found here: https://github.com/Zaers/-tg-station/commit/647778828f8cf8fcb0a48c100f29d91732a79f2d

Basically, it extracts the materials found in a particular object, instead of magically making bananium out of stuff or whatever. Removes the need for a blacklist of garbage items, which would never be able to cover all bases of exploitable items anyway.

Also readds myself to admins.txt goddamn mso

The problem with this is that objects only have miniscule amounts of glass/metal in them, and only if they can be made in the autolathe.

This makes the recycler completely useless aside from just deleting items(which there's better ways to do this anyways)

Relying on the crusher is only really worth it for when mining is inactive and doesn't come through with any materials. By the time you research T3 parts, set up the crusher and steal some conveyor belts from cargo, mining's usually come in with a shipment that has not only gold and silver, but also diamond, plasma and uranium too. Is the crusher's admittedly laws-of-physics-breaking behavior really hurting anything bad enough to warrant a change, because if mining doesn't come through (especially a problem with lowpop), there's no other way for science to get those materials

besides getting off their ass, going to the hop and mining themselves, you mean

Ideally, more items would have materials properly set. So maybe if you wanted gold you could recycle circuitry for scrap gold, or melt down the captain's medals for silver, etc.
The recycler's current physics-breaking functionality is a workaround due to this lack of depth.

👍 Always weird to see scientists stealing the existing recycler at roundstart and dump boxes galore of foam darts and get gold/bananium from... foam.

@Iamgoofball er, I'm sorry to say that you forgot to do that, #11291 should have fixed that but it's not been merged after ten days probably due to the comments saying it's not fixing the real problem.
