Thanks, @daiced. This is a code signing issue. Can you please include the output of the command I put in my original post (which codesign)? |

Interesting. By the way, do you have XCode installed? If so, this might be worth a try: http://iosdevelopertips.com/mac-osx/code-signing-error-object-file-format-unrecognized-invalid-or-unsuitable.html

I have the same issue on OS X 10.8.4. Here's the output when running which codessign: /usr/bin/codesign |
Installed xcode, tried the "export code sign" before running "sudo codesign -f -s - /System/Library/CoreServices/rcd.app/Contents/MacOS/rcd" and still get the "object file format unrecognized, invalid, or unsuitable" What can i try next? OSX10.8.4 |
@vinht23, @mikeriv, Sorry for the delay, I have been very busy at work lately. After applying the patch one more time can you please try running the following comands in Terminal and send the output? sudo killall rcd 2> /dev/null After this rcd should start backup itself. Let the system run for a few minutes and see if you continue to experience those rcd crashes. Also, can you send me what your system has for "Allow applications downloaded from:" under "Security & Privacy" system preference? |
There seems to be an issue with some users not having an identity.
I have posted on stack exchange to see if someone there can point me in the right direction to fix this. |
Hi, How do I uninstall your patch? iTunes was occasionally launching by itself and I saw that this might help but now I get a "rcd quit unexpectedly while using the rcd plug-in." error when I hit any of the keyboard controls.... like volume. I should add that I'm not very experience with the command line.... :-/ Ok, Just just located the /System/Library/CoreServices/rcd.app and deleted it .... is that enough?? It seems to have stopped the crash errors from popping up constantly ... Sorry I realise these ares a total newb questions... |
@Hilmon Which Mac OS X version are you on? If you run the patch again then it will undo the changes it made, but rcd.app needs to be there. Can you recover rcd.app from trash and then run the patch? |
Hi, Thanks for the reply .... I'm running 10.9.1 Mavrick ... Thanks, that sorted it! ..... I still haven't found the answer to why iTunes occasionally launches by itself tho .... :-/ |
@Hilmon That's surprising because I am running 10.9.1 myself and successfully applied this patch. I have also heard from numerous folks that the patch worked for them. The I am not sure why iTunes would randomly pop up. I don't think that would be related to this. After you restored the original |
No more iTunes launching but as I said it is very intermittent... When I did run your patch it did see something about running it from root ... and it wouldn't let me, or at least didn't display my password when prompted.... No more crash pop ups after rerunning the patch and restoring the original files. |
If possible, please share the output if you decide to run it again. Also, if iTunes pops up again then take a look in the |
Will do! Thanks again for your help! |
I also get the crashing of RCD. Running OSX 10.8.5. Here's an interesting thing I noticed while running v0.8.3 of the patch:
Thoughts? |
@bluestarstudios I have created a new issue (#6). Please see that issue for next steps. |
RCD seems to be crashing for some folks. I am guessing that this is because they are missing the codesign utility which might be part of XCode. If you are facing this issue then can you please include the output of running the following command in
Terminal
