Everything is bundled up in a container. If it was decently documented, explaining what other services it needs to link to and what environment variables it needs, it could turn into something that other people could easily spin up on their own, eg, locally with boot2docker.

Perfect. The old idea of creating a simulation/scenario creation tool is more appealing than ever. Part of the documentation should include as many whys as hows in adding environment variables-- MW will be valuable for that.
