For "Username", enter your username e.g. For "Server", enter the primary domain of your SSO account. For example, if your account is: "`@awesomeaccount:matrix.org", enter awesomeaccount in the "Username" field and matrix.org in the "Server" field.

You can actually just type @awesomeaccount:example.com into the username field and it will get split into username and server fields when the field loses focus (or you press next).

It might also be worth noting that you can't use link in an email based logins with SSO at this time (which is an option Mozilla SSO has)

Why do some Matrix rooms remain empty, why others show old messages?

It might be worth referring to the logs there. You can look at all past messages thunderbird received (so if they were in a previous session of thunderbird) through the "Previous Conversations" panel in the bottom right of the conversation.

We might want to point out that you can redact/delete messages by right clicking on them. This is a unique interaction for the matrix protocol, none of the other currently available protocols use context menu actions (the system was built for Twitter).

Another potential good topic might be about verification:

  1. You can't use encryption with Thunderbird as the first client in your account. You need to use another client to set up encryption.
  2. To cross-sign the TB session easiest way is to go to the account settings -> end-to-end encryption and click verify on the bolded session, which is the session you're logged in as. This will then ask all your clients to verify your session, so you can accept wherever (as long as wherever suports emoji SAS).

(OTR should barely be used with matrix, though a troubleshooting step if you have issues with matrix encryption is to make sure the "require end-to-end encryption for 1:1 convs" isn't enabled - I remember that causing bugs in the past, and honestly don't remember if that's entirely fixed.)

Another addition for verification: to verify other people you right click their name in the participants list or the contacts list and select "Verify Identity".
