Flatpak (aka xdg-app) It is a new framework for distributing applications for the Linux desktop decentralized and secure. Among its many new features, it keeps applications updated directly by the author, independent of the operating system or its version and will be executed in a sandbox.

Currently still in active development. Now it can be used in several distributions and is strongly supported by the community of fedora. The next version of gnome-software will handle Flatpak native support.

It would be a desirable feature Flatpak support as alternative distribution application system.

It is interesting, I will track how it turns out in the future, but we need a stable python API to work with to make it interesting.
The main problem with new stuff like this it takes time to mature and become more stable so you can work with it without it is breaking all the time.
