It might be possible to get around the quantity equivalence problem with implicit conversions from one quantity to another.

See here for an example.

Implicit conversions don't work in all cases. It would be possible to have a workaround by aligning a quantity in terms of another using shapeless's Align. Implicit conversions should work on correctly aligned quantities.
