this could allow for a set of options, i.e., publishing metrics towards:

local or remote MySQL/PostGreSQL DB
OpenStack Ceilometer and/or Monasca, usable in e.g., Heat or Senlin autoscaling groups
Kubernetes custom metrics, accessible in e.g., a Pod autoscaler
