Jar connecting the Postgres db

Not an "issue" so much but it would be nice if we could include a basic jar file that could be used to connect to the Postgres server from the tomcat server. More a feel-good improvement but it would be nice if we could see something on the frontend that indicated our postgres db was up and running and could actually capture data.
