I have metasploit installed and working built manually from the rapid7 git repository.
When I point METASPLOIT_PATH at the path of the installed metasploit directory (with no trailing slash) I get the following error:
[!] Metasploit path not found. These payloads will be disabled. [!] Please configure in the config/set_config.
Is a manual metasploit running from git supported?

As long as you point SET to a path that has msfconsole it works fine. Just tested and reconfirmed, does not appear to be a bug.
