Maybe a read only mode for loadRegistry would be useful. For example I have an experiment running on a server where not all jobs have started yet. But I already want to collect some results on my local machine and have a look at them.
So I mount the registry location via network and load it in R on my local machine. This reads the registry and automatically changes the $file.dir and saves the registry again. This destroys all jobs on the server which haven't started by then as they try to read the local directory.
