Failed installation: Bad header lines, failed indexes, are you root

Ran the install script, and got "bad header line" issues during the install. It said some packages had not been installed. At the end it also erorred with "are you root" ? This is on a Lenovo IX2 NAS drive and I tried to install the server package only.
