Is this a BUG REPORT or FEATURE REQUEST?:

What happened:
Currently we support only one backend.

What you expected to happen:
Might be great, if we could support multiple backends for things such as gometa, dockerv2.

Anything else we need to know?:
Just a rough idea and no specific use case or implementation yet.
