[OTHER] Retroshare #75
Comments
What category do you suggest Retroshare be put under? |
Best match... Drive? It a bit all over the place but that is my best suggestion. (As next/owncloud) |
In the past I have put some services in multiple spots. I'd be willing to do Hangouts for the Chat feature; possibly Gmail for the Mail service (however I'm not sure if it is a full email client that can communicate with other providers); and Drive for the file share feature. What do you think? Are you also able to confirm if Mail can communicate with other providers (like Proton, Tuta, etc.)? Thanks! |
@woutfeys what happens if you upload that file to virustotal.com? |
My browser and antivirus automatically remove it... one sec pls |
I would say it's safe if only those 4 pick it up. Two of them are free and don't have the best reputation, the other two I've never heard of. Plus, since it's open source, there's always the option to audit the code and build it manually if there is concern. |
Yeah sure, i just know that a lot of people use AVG so maybe a litle note or a link to the virustotal site? |
I personally feel it would be better to put Virustotal in the Resources section rather than adding a note to every service that needs it. I know this isn't totally realistic but optimally people using this guide should be using some form of open source OS such as Linux or BSD. Like I said, this isn't totally realistic especially if people aren't able to modify their OS (could be due to a work computer, shared device, lack of knowledge, locked-down bios, etc.). I might write up a note on Antivirus scanning for Resources. Some free antivirus like Avast and AVG throw a lot of false negatives such as Retroshare, probably because of it's decentralized networking. |
This was added June 12. Probably about time we look at this again @p1ersson and @woutfeys. This could be added under:
I don't think the Mail feature is a full email service; it appears to be internal between Retroshare users. Thoughts? |
Closing due to inactivity, although I am willing to reopen for discussion. |
How about Retroshare? A bit of do it all. email, chat, fileshare.
