"couldn't read native" error when exporting Markdown to LaTeX

Describe the bug
I wanted to export an MD file to LaTeX, but the export failed saying:

couldn't read native

args: [-f, native, -s, -o, path/to/tex/file.tex, -t, latex]

I've seen closed issues in this repository saying this happened with files containing tables, but my file only has lists, text formatting, and links to URLs.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

1. Go to File >Export
2. Click on LaTeX
3. See error

Expected behavior
I expected to be able to export a Markdown file to LaTeX but it did not work.
