Would be nice to build a bootable iso instead of an initrd. Could it added to u-root?

Great idea!

Another feature would be an installer command which would install u-root onto the local hard disk.

If u-root would support initrd, bios iso and uefi iso that would be awesome.

Linuxkit has docker based generation of different output format (raw-efi, iso-efi, kernel+initrd,...)

If we are happy to pull a dependency like go-diskfs I could probably write up a draft for this.
