There is a package archive MELPA for Emacs packages. It's similar to this project, ultralisp for Common-Lisp. In MELPA, they generate badges per package, so the user can add them to their README.md. I think it's quite nice so more people can link to this project and gain more popularity! Here are some badges as references:

By the way, there is the code in Quickdocs.org which generates SVG badges for projects in quicklisp. For example, this URL https://api.quickdocs.org/badge/cffi.svg will be rendered as:
