It would add significantly to file size, but it would be nice for it to just work out of the box.

npm's website has better syntax highlighting than github. npm uses https://www.npmjs.com/package/marky-markdown, which uses the atom editor's highlighting, whereas github uses highlight.js. Need to dig through marky-markdown and see how they did it then replicate that here.

no, this should be handled but other libraries, of which there are plenty
