Consider the addition of QEMU-3DFX #5115
Comments
Can you link to the source code? |
Oh it’s the same as #3323 I’ve reopened that one since it has more context. However realistically it probably won’t be done as I’d rather spend my efforts on a full GPU solution that works across everything. |
+1 on full GPU solution, because this work he mentioned isnt even GPL legal plus doesnt even let you run Aero Glass on Windows. It's strictly for 3Dfx, Glide and very old OpenGL games in a certain context. Not that it would let you run AutoCAD on it, nope. |
So then, how are you gonna deal with GPL legality issues? May I suggest you a lesson on "What GPL really means"?
So if the corporates backing of QEMU and WineHQ do not have their lawyers going after the project for their rights being infringed, then the Sith will be laughing sinisterly on the verge of 64-bit legacy-free computing that Apple had demonstrated since macOS Catalina. Neither the answer poster nor I were lawyers, I presumed. If you reside in the countries & regions that deviate GPL interpretations, then you could try pursuing the case in the courts there. Though it seems Master Yoda from another Parallel universe had telepathically taught the young Padawan well in the arts of absorbing & devouring the Sith Apprentice [⚡FORCE LIGHTNING⚡]...🤣🤣 |
UTM is simply a front end for QEMU. UTM bundles QEMU and their licenses are provided: https://mac.getutm.app/licenses/ |
I came across this video ( https://youtu.be/j7liRXxGdXo ) which demonstrated (which i believe is) emulating a Voodoo card in QEMU, which obviously is UTM's emulation backend. This allows you to make use of the M1 GPU to play games like Unreal Tournament on Windows 98/XP. This may sound too optimistic but maybe if this allows 3D acceleration on XP, we could open the door to possibly being able to have 3D acceleration for PowerPC macs.
