Hard to predictably tap “Room directory” (or even know what it means) on Rooms tab #4521

Due to the Network selection directly beneath it, when it works you scroll to the top of the section, otherwise you end up with the Select a Directory screen.

Suggest removal of section as the same functionality is available from the #+ button at the bottom of the Rooms tab.

The header for the Rooms section could go too, however when there is an invite a second section will be added.

I agree with this. Vertical space on the phone is precious and a header that repeats the tab title, with a number is probably one of the least useful things on the tab. We don't have a visible number on Android, we don't have a visible number on web.

I agree, I believe removing this section from the tab will:

  • Make it easier to digest the tab's content, which is a primary goal in using the app
  • Make the tab's content less alienating to user's with only a few rooms
  • Reduce overall cognitive load
  • Simplify flows

This all sounds great to me. Only one question remaining: If the Rooms section header is removed, when there's an invite what would be the best behaviour? Add it back but without the number? And then leave the number on the invite header?

@pixlwave have you maybe got an image of what an invite currently looks like on iOS?

Yep sure. Currently the Rooms tab looks like this when you've got an invite into a room:

Thanks! I think it's better without the section title to be honest. With the section title, I think it then looks odd that Rooms doesn't have a title.
