This is a very old bug, and only happens when on Chrome/OSX on a retina display you zoom the screen to an interesting percentage zoom via Cmd-+ - e.g. 133%. There looks to be an integer rounding error that means it fails to realise when you have scrolled to the bottom of the page and thus read the latest messages.
