I deleted a windows 10 installation .iso from thumbdrive with ventoy, but when booting from the thumbdrive the .iso is still seen as an option. How do it remove the unwanted .iso completely?

Probably you didn't delete the file completely but to the recycle bin.

Mm that sounds like a bug?
I mean apparently ventoy searches for iso files in trash as well?

+1 to remove files that are in recycle bin?

Came here to confirm the same issue, as I did find the file was still present in .Trash-1002 which caused duplicates to appear on the drive.

I believe that Ventoy should ignore files stored inside .Trash* and $RECYCLE.BIN. If they're in a trash folder, then it's clear that they are unwanted.

I also ran across this issue and agree with @queengooborg - it would be fantastic if Ventoy ignored files that are located in well-known Trash/Recycle directories.

Confirmed Ventoy 1.0.94 still displays deleted *.iso (tested on 2023-08-08).

Workaround: Purge the *.iso in the hidden directory .Trash-0001

I actually did used to be able to see these two directories, but I think after updating to 1.0.95 Neither .Trash-0001 not $RECYCLE.BIN exist anymore, so this workaround can't ven help me. My only real option is to back up and re-install my Ventoy drive and do the same thing every time I need to replace/remove an ISO.

@bullmoos211 Updating Ventoy in no way touches these directories. We're here because Ventoy doesn't treat them special in the first place. Your file manager is set to hide "hidden" files. Check for a setting to change that and you will see them again.

I always have my directories set to show hidden as well as extensions, that's not the cause. I know for a fact that in a previous version both of those folders were visible and after one of those updates they just disappeared, and I do see other hidden files. I've checked on both windows and Linux systems, this is not a settings issue.

@bullmoos211 On Windows, there is a third setting to hide "system files". Just checked: it has to be disabled to see the trash directory. Double check that. If these directories are in fact absent, then there is no place for deleted ISOs to go and they won't take up space after you delete them. This isn't about Ventoy btw., but how Windows (and various other OS) handle trash bin directories. Ventoy doesn't care.

Yeah, you're talking about "Hide protected OS files". Yeah, that's disabled too. I also checked the EFI folder, and they don't exist in that either.

@bullmoos211 Then what happens when you delete a file? If Windows doesn't move it to the recycle bin, it should show a dialog asking to delete it permanently. There is absolutely no necessity to reinstall Ventoy to remove ISO files.
