Today I wanted to install windows 10 20h2 on my laptop. I downloaded the x64 Image and put it on my Laptop.
I started to ventoy and selected my win10 iso. Not working.

I downloaded the image 3 or 4 times again. Still the same error.
Then I tried to run my Ventoy USB Stick on a QEMU i386 VM. Still the same error.

Next I tried to run it on my PC (The only device I own with UEFI Boot, but usually using Legacy), booted in Legacy. Still the one and only problem.
Then I booted the ISO with UEFI and tada, Setup loading.

Important to mention is, I get a blinking underscore on screen. Also important is, that on QEMU and my PC the Windows 10 Logo shortly pops up.

Filename:

win10-iso.iso

Ventoy Version:

(1.0.29) 1.0.30

USB Stick:

SanDisk Ultra USB 3.0 64GB

(Yes, i know there's already an issuse open, but it's a bit too little information)

Please do a test:
When you boot into Ventoy's menu, press ctrl+i firstly and then select the ISO and boot.

So this mostly fixed my issue.
The underscore blinks now for 1 - 2 Minutes, then it shows the Bootup Screen and brings me to the setup.

Thanks for helping

This is just a test, you can just lunch the setup.exe, but will fail if you continue to install.
How to download the iso you tested? or can you share me the file for test?

@ventoy I download my ISO with that Windows 10 Media Creator. This Image works fine, when burned to CD or used in a VM. Selected Language is German

Could you reproduce the issue?

I'm having the same issue with v1.0.37 and Win10_20H2_v2_English_x64.iso downloaded from microsoft.

Download link for ISO: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10ISO

I tried ctrl-i before selecting the ISO but same issue... a quick flash of a windows screen, followed by a blinking cursor for 2 minutes or so, then just a blank screen which I left for about 10 minutes to see if something would eventually come up. Nothing ever did.

@kkellner

Well.. I just tried the same USB flash drive as above with Win10_20H2_v2_English_x64.iso (without the ctrl-i) on a different computer and it works. The boot looks like this:

  • Select Win10_20H2_v2_English_x64.iso from menu
  • Get a Windows screen for 1 second then a flashing cursor for 2 minutes or so
  • Then get a Windows screen again with an animated spinning cursor below for about 15 seconds
  • Then you get the dialog to enter Language, etc.

So I'm not sure why it doesn't work on the first laptop I tried it on. Unfortunately, that's the laptop I need to install Win10 on. :(

Maybe some laptop BIOS setting??

Hello, I had the same problem. Changing exfat to ntfs solved it for me

I have the same problem.

Windows 10 20H2 does not load, I have tried it in 2 different languages (Spanish and Polish) and it does not load.

After selecting the ISO, the underscore appears for about 1 - 2 minutes and then returns to the beginning (where the ISOS is selected) or the screen goes black.

I tried to change the format of the ISO partition from Exfat to NTFS but the problem continues.

Tested:
Intel Nuc6i3
2 x distinct pendrives
UEFI and Legacy Boot

Thanks

Intel NUC seems to have problems.
May be due to memory map of system?
Always list computers you have tested on and try several different models and makes.

Also try same iso with other solutions, e.g. easy2boot which includes agFM for grub2 uefi booting

Same Problem on Ventoy 1.0.43, windows 20H2_x64,
ctrl+i didnt work for me.

This happened to me on choosing usb from opencore boot menu, but on directlt going to usb from uefi bios I get Boot configuration data is missing, error 0xc000014c.

@victorelec14

I also tried ctrl + i (Compatibility mode) and it didn't work either.

The last version Ventoy 1.0.43 did not work either.

Intel Nuc with the latest Bios (after updating) did not work either.

The pendrive did boot into another laptop (HP OMEN), but before the underscore it showed the windows logo and the underscore took only 2-3 seconds.

On booting with a VM with ram above 2GB, there is no issue(ISO seems not to be the case ). I tried on multiple machines, with secure boot off same error.

Test with this CI release
https://github.com/ventoy/Ventoy/actions/runs/835870662
press ctrl+w and select the ISO file to boot in Wimboot mode.

@ventoy Did you see new wimboot bugfix for bootmgr bug is released?

@steve6375
I use the latest wimboot source code.
It seems that the virtualcdrom emulated by Ventoy doesn't work very well in some motherboard's Legacy BIOS mode.
I have not figured out it. So I add a wimboot mode for a workaround in Legacy BIOS mode.

I actually had problems with UEFI booting of windows 10 20H2, legacy boots fine even without wimboot mode in 1.0.43. Sorry for the inconvenience.

@ventoy So for me the Installer starts - setup not tested - with wimboot mode enabled.

This is an old issue. I will close it now.
If you still have problem with latest Ventoy release, you can reopen the issue.

With wimboot it worked, but later asks me to select a driver to load.

Update:- Working fine with latest windows 11 image

一切正常

@douglascrp

For me, it worked by using the wimboot option, but only after I used rsync to copy the iso file into the usb drive.
By using cp, the file is always broken.

I had to copy the contents of the iso onto the ssd and then rebooted from it directly without usb. It was on an old RV510
