Just installed the plugin and when I click on the link in the main nav, this is the error I get.

Note I wasn't on the Craft "Pro" tier so there was one (or zero?) user groups.

Haven't tested it with the Free or Client versions. You are right, the fact that there are zero usergroups causes the error. Will fix this soon.
