For Chinese publications, a first-line indent usually uses 2-em spaces.
这里的spaces改为spacing可能更合适,不然可能会被误解为一个两个汉字宽的空格字符。

动词「use(s)」似乎不是必须的,可以考虑简化语义,改为:
[…] a first-line indent is usually 2 em.
同时,后一句「[…] might apply 1-em first-line indents as well.」也可以考虑类似修订,略去动词「apply」。
