It would be nice if a standalone web application could request that the UA provide a means to search the content of the page being shown in the application. This would be akin to allowing cntr-f to be pressed on a desktop browser.

That sounds like the kind of feature that should be considered when there is a decent support and good developer/implementer feedback.
