"They were used before WAI-ARIA landmarks were implemented in browsers and assistive technologies and can still be useful in some situations."

Landmarks not yet keyboard navigable without AT.

So instead say
"They were used before WAI-ARIA landmarks were implemented in browsers and assistive technologies. Skip links are still recommended because browsers still don't provide keyboard access to Landmarks, and skip links are the way most screen reader users expect to move to the main content."
