Create unit test (Onboarding Goals)

To complete one of the on-boarding goal bullets, I need to select some unit test to develop, so I selected to create a unit test for the code inside the src/shared_modules/utils folder.
To identify which function is not tested, the coverage test was run and I can identify a series of files where I can work.
