Currently the styling around <figure /> and <figcaption /> is a bit off. There are a few subtleties involved:

  • Gutenberg has styling for float: left and float-right, which does not have a matching use case for markdown remark
  • The floated figures extend the main text region, this part needs some figure out around CSS
