This is a feature request that would allow players to harvest Pyrolusite from Pyrolusite Ore and decolorize glass/glass panes by placing 1x Pyrolusite & the colored glass of choice in a crafting grid to revert it to normal, unstained glass, while also using it as a decoration block and storage block.

Pyrolusite Ore can be smelted into 3 Pyrolusite, and when mined, yields 3 Pyrolusite. It can be harvested using a stone pickaxe and above, and can spawn below Y = 40 at a rareness roughly between iron and gold. Additionally, Pyrolusite can be placed in the item form to create a raised, rock-like structure similar to that of amethyst except filtered gray and black with white speckles.

When crafted into a block, it yields one gray and black block with white speckles mineable with a stone pickaxe. Mining the block drops itself, and has a breaking time the same as a lapis lazuli block. In total, Pyrolusite counts for four different blocks/items but cannot be crafted into armor.

I already added all of this for one of my own mods, but it's not really going anywhere and I'd like to see it here. Pyrolusite in real life is used to decolorize glass, and it makes sense to do this as opposed to any other feature that would allow players to revert glass.

This is a great idea! I love adding things like this, that have an obscure real-life use.

I'd have to think of some other uses for it (can imagine it would get annoying if you keep finding pyrolusite but don't have any glass to undye) but I'd love to implement this.

@williambl Chiseled versions of the blocks perhaps? When in doubt, Minecraft makes a lot of things decorative. Could also use Pyrolusite (since it's a manganese product) for medical purposes, since it's a common vitamin, to "sprinkle" it in in food to increase the saturation by 1.5x. Would have to add a separate texture for most of the foods though that'd indicate it's glistened with the manganese.

It'd be cool if foods like poisonous potatoes could be salvaged by throwing pyrolusite on there with it, since those are found so frequently.

Those are some great ideas, thank you so much.

I know I've made textures before but I'm not really a good artist. Did you have any ideas on what the foods should look like? I added a grayscale filter to the foods and speckled them with white/gray spots but it just looked like an "I just burnt this food in the furnace and sprinkled salt on it", and the other texture I did was unable to make it stand out because of the subtle sparkles. Another texture I did was for chicken, where the highlights in the texture looked "fractured", but it didn't look quite right, but that may be the best approach.

Could just make it glow but it doesn't look as cool.

I might try some programmatic texture manipulation, adding grey sprinkles. Maybe I'll make them animated.
