To be able to sort the lists is a nice feature but it would be even nicer if the sorting could be applied automatically (When the list changes)

There has already been discussion on automatic sorting in #2.

Automatic sorting and manual reordering are conflicting with each other. An implementation should provide following:

  • Automatic sorting should be optional (add a new preference)
  • If automatic sorting is enabled, manual reordering should be disabled

I won't use automatic sorting myself. So it's not a high priority for me to implement this. I sort the items on my list manually in the same order I find them in the supermarket e.g. all the fruit goes on top, because it's the first thing I see when I enter the store.

In this case categories will help you a lot.
I would even further say that thus we do not need any automatic sorting, e.g. what is the purpose of having all fruits in a-z order?

My use case: Sort by Unchecked first. When I uncheck items there's a need to manually select Unchecked first to remove the unchecked items from the top of the list.
