fails to import blogger blog

i have tried unsuccessfully to import a google blogger blog into WP several times.

• i exported the blogger blog xml file (approx. 250 mb)
• in tools>blogger importer>run importer>browse to xml file>upload file and import
• after some time the page changes to a blank page with Import Blogger in the upper left
• no files are uploaded and nothing is imported
• tech support at A2 hosting duplicated the problem but report the logs did not indicate what the problem is and recommended i contact you for support. any help will be greatly appreciated as i have thousands of posts over nearly 10 years to move to WP.
