It is a very interesting project! :)

Did you think about ESP8266 that is also very common in Arduino/Smart home? Maybe even ESP32 - with builtin Bluetooth low energy - but this one is quite new and there is not much libraries and info at the moment...

Very good project. It has given me the pointers I needed to build my home heating system. I will be using the EPS32 because of built in WiFi and BLE stacks. Hope you got a good grade for your project :)
