All went well and I was able to import simsetup.xpdsim successfully, but then typing start_beamtime() at the ipython prompt resulted in a name start_beamtime is not define error.

This is unfortunate as I can't work on this tomorrow at BNL, and unfortunately you had stepped out when I found this.... :(

unknown git confusion. Closed now.
