Given an open file (so it would be attached to a data server), how do I set the monitoring info for the associated stream?

Seems that I would need to open a FileSystem object from that File. If I get the LastURL property of the file and open a FileSystem with that URL, do I have any guarantee this will be using the same stream as the File?
