I closed this issue because swipe has been implemented for phone and at the time I closed this issue there wasn't a phone version yet.
Could you provide a pull request for this feature, or a screenshot showing what it would look like ?

With the buttons it might be a good idea to move the headings over to the left a bit, and truncate the titles if needbe, and then the forward and backward buttons similar to the mockup. A long time ago the google reader app had this and I loved it.
