Which tool

Both tidal-gui and tidal-dl

Version

Tidal-gui 1.2.1.10
Tidal-dl 2022.10.31.1

Platform

Windows 10 22H2

Describe the bug

Cannot download high resolution .flac files.
While downloading:
https://tidal.com/browse/album/359900
both tools (tidal-dl and tidal-gui) save .flac with 44100 kHx and 16 bits.

While listening them to Tidal, results in 88.2 kHx and 24 bit resolution.

On tidal-dl, I've tried both Fire-TV APIkey and Android Auto. Same effect.

Also:
https://tidal.com/browse/album/248688983
available on Tidal in 24bit 96kHz, is downloaded as .flac in 24 bit but 48kHz.

It looks like downloads are a half of kHz that are in Tidal tracks.

Only a MQA decoder can read MQA file over 44.1/48 KHz.

MQA is stored using the FLAC container, so it is basically a flac file
MQA 44.1/88.2 KHz audios are stored on a 44.1 KHz FLAC file
MQA 48/96/192 KHz audios are stored on a 48 KHz FLAC file

A non-MQA player will read FLAC file as a normal 44.1/48 KHz file, but a MQA decorer will extract 88.2/96/192

What about bit-depth, some artists have duplicated albums, one being at 16bit and others at 24bit, per example.
24bit MQA is stored as 24bit FLAC and the same happens for 16bit

But if you are stuck on 44.1/16 files, maybe you're not on the Master option on tidal-dl/gui, you don't have the proper TIDAL subscription to play Master audio, or even the Master audio is only at 44.1/88.2 KHz 16bit.

Remember, MQA is not a normal Hi-Res audio or a PCM file. It is a proprietary codec that requires physical equipment (DACs, p. e.) to deliver the true hi-res audio

HI @seensoul, I know over a year has past from your post but I was wondering if you were able to get the download quality higher than 44khz/16bit.
I'm also struggling with the same issue.
In fact, I can only download the album you shared (https://tidal.com/browse/album/248688983) at 44/16.
FYI, I'm selecting device 4 which is an Android Auto expected to download upto Master Quality.
I don't even need Master Quality, I always set the quality to HiFi although I have Tidal HiFi Plus subscription.

I used Spectro tool and this is what I get from one of the downloaded FLAC file:

It means clearly the flac file is not lossless!

I appreciate if you could point me to the right direction in case you figured it out.
