Which tool
tidal-dl

Version
v2021.11.30.1

Platform
Macos

Bug description

  1. I have Tidal HiFI Plus subscription
  2. I have set the Audio quality to AudioQuality.Master
  3. I have set APIKey support to Master-Only(Else Error)

I downloaded Lorde's "Pure Heroine" in February of 2021 and here is the info when playing one of the tracks:
Screen Shot 2022-01-02 at 16 27 35
Screen Shot 2022-01-02 at 16 28 16

I have reinstalled the latest version v2021.11.30.1 and tried downloading the very same record on January 2, 2022 and here is the result:
Screen Shot 2022-01-02 at 16 31 39
Screen Shot 2022-01-02 at 16 31 59

So although the tracks are downloaded in high resolution, they are not MQA encoded files.

So how can I downloaded MQA encoded files (since it definitely worked in the past)

I doubt that Tidal replaced this particular record with MQA-less version, but just in case if anybody can post a link to a definitely MQA encoded record I can try and download it to check.

Although another possibility might be that something, either tidal-dl or Tidal itself is stripping MQA tags from tracks.
Like mentioned here I downloaded MQA tagger and it did restore proper MQA tags on that record.
Also, running MQA Identifier did confirm that the tracks are indeed MQA tracks.

So I'm not sure what is happening here and why the proper tags are getting stripped. Although I doubt that Tidal is stripping tags since 3rd party players might rely on these tags being present, so I'm guessing that tidal-dl is stripping these tags.
