It shouldn't matter if you use something like deservesSave because that goes through
isFileBuffer :: (Functor m, MonadBase IO m) => FBuffer -> m Bool
isFileBuffer b = case b ^. identA of
MemBuffer _ -> return False
FileBuffer fn -> not <$> liftBase (doesDirectoryExist fn)
which will ignore dired buffers. So it seems :q needs to use deservesSave.
Dired buffers are treated as FileBuffer's rather than MemBuffers. However even an unmanipulated Dired buffer is considered unsaved.

will not give expected behavior.
