fakeroot not doing anything?

Describe the issue
fakeroot seems to do nothing with my fresh install of Windows when trying to use makepkg. I've been trying to install yay and other AUR packages. Windows Firewall does come up asking for permission to let faked through.
ArchWSL is installed in C:\Users\dbdii\Documents\WSL\Arch

It seems to download the source .tar.gz files but nothing else happens

To Reproduce
Install ArchWSL as described in the README

Expected behavior
... it working? I dunno how else to describe it.

Either I've gotten lucky all these years beforehand or the -S argument changed.
This is solved. Don't use -S
