Hello,

I'm reading about zyre elections and don't see anything in the RFC about it.
https://rfc.zeromq.org/spec/43/

Is this something that should be documented there?

And on a related note, what functionality do elections provide a user with?

Thanks!

Hi @smalls12,
you're right the elections part is not in the RFC.

I added elections for zyre groups a couple of years back as draft feature but never had a real use case where I could have matured it.

The current election feature work per zyre group and elects a leader on all participating peers. The current implementation will hold an election every time a peer joins or the leader leaves.

Understood, I'd like to leave this issue open, even if only for documentation purposes.
I'm playing around with pyre and thought it would be a good idea to bring as much functionality from zyre into there as well.
So ideally, they would be fully compatible.
