According to section 3.6.4 Learning heuristics from experience of the book Artificial Intelligence: A modern approach, machine learning techniques can be used to solve sliding-block puzzle problems. However, this section, (as well as the book, perhaps), doesn't provide any further details and references about this could be done.

Research on this topic and implements these techniques. Should be fun.
