A mostly technical release, with a number of enhancements:

  • SDG Indicators have been elevated to classes (maintaining their PURLs) to allow regional and local instances and more flexible axiomatisation.
  • The build process has been updated and streamlined in the src/Makefile
  • All target IDs (annotation properties) are now string literal, preventing issues when SPARQL is used on values such as "8.1" and "8.a".

This release contains some initial classes requested to support the latest round of data and metadata tagging. Classes which correspond to indicators have been added (generally as information artifacts) and will be semantically refined as we add classes which correspond to the material or processual entities that they refer to.

In this release, classes required to begin using SDGIO to tag data have been added or imported. A number of discussions are underway on the issue tracker to clarify definitions and the hierarchy of the ontology. Users should familiarise themselves with the obsolescence / replacement process used by OBO Foundry ontologies to prepare for updated which involve obsoleting classes.

In this release, several classes for priority SDG terms were added and the complexity behind them elaborated upon. There is clearly more to be done to unpack the semantics and coordinate with UNBIS and similar groups who would use SDGIO for tagging data sets and information artefacts. More feedback from expert communities is needed to better resolve these classes. Synonyms and sets of alternative labels preferred by various agencies and organisations will be needed to accommodate differential usage.

In this release, more classes have been added to SDGIO and imported from other ontologies (several of which have created new classes to support SDGIO's needs). More feedback and refinement will happen in the near future.
