SBOLDesigner 3.1
We are pleased to announce the release of SBOLDesigner 3.1. download from:
https://github.com/SynBioDex/SBOLDesigner/releases
On this link you will find the JAR file which will run SBOLDesigner. In addition to some small bug fixes and behavior modification, SBOLDesigner now supports a more robust version of enumerating combinatorial derivations. The enhancements to enumeration largely stand behind the newly added ability to enumerate over collections and adding pre existing combinatorial derivations.
- New features
-Added ability to add variant collections to combinatorial derivations
-Added ability to enumerate variant collections
-Added stop site glyph.
-Added ability to view sequence features hierarchically - Changes
-Preferences now more robust in regards to saving designs with incomplete sequences.
-Ability to re-use existing combinatorial derivations
-Sequence annotations generated upon enumeration
-No longer allow mixing of sequence features. - Bug fixes
-Fixed bugs in regards to editing part outside namespace.
-Fixed bug where "N" would appear in sequences.
-Ribozyme rendered as RNA stability element glyph
-Constitutive promoter now rendered as promoter.
-Was derived from field now properly added during enumeration
SBOLDesigner 3.0
SBOLDesigner is a simple, biologist-friendly CAD software tool for creating and manipulating the sequences of genetic constructs using the Synthetic Biology Open Language (SBOL) data model. Throughout the design process, SBOL Visual symbols, a system of schematic glyphs, provide standardized visualizations of individual parts. SBOLDesigner completes a workflow for users of genetic design automation tools. It combines a simple user interface with the power of the SBOL standard and serves as a launchpad for more detailed designs involving simulations and experiments.
New features include:
- Support for combinatorial design
- SBOL Visual 2 compliant glyphs
- More extensive support for SynBioHub (private accounts, search, upload)
- Web of Registries integration
- Improved provenance support
- Overlay glyphs/notifications
- Bug fixes
- Numerous other improvements
To run, download and double click on the SBOLDesigner-3.0.jar file above. To see detailed error messages and logging, run SBOLDesigner using a terminal by running "java -jar SBOLDesigner-3.0.jar" in the same directory as the file. Make sure there is an internet connection and the latest version of Java is installed.

SBOLDesigner v2.2
SBOLDesigner 2.2 is a simple, biologist-friendly CAD software tool for creating and manipulating the sequences of genetic constructs using the Synthetic Biology Open Language (SBOL) 2 data model. Throughout the design process, SBOL Visual symbols, a system of schematic glyphs, provide standardized visualizations of individual parts. SBOLDesigner 2.2 completes a workflow for users of genetic design automation tools. It combines a simple user interface with the power of the SBOL standard and serves as a launchpad for more detailed designs involving simulations and experiments.
Pre-release of SBOLDesigner 2.2
This is a pre-release of SBOLDesigner 2.2 that includes support for interfacing with SynBioHub.
SBOLDesigner v2.1
SBOLDesigner 2.1 is a simple, biologist-friendly CAD software tool for creating and manipulating the sequences of genetic constructs using the Synthetic Biology Open Language (SBOL) 2.0 data model. Throughout the design process, SBOL Visual symbols, a system of schematic glyphs, provide standardized visualizations of individual parts. SBOLDesigner 2.1 completes a workflow for users of genetic design automation tools. It combines a simple user interface with the power of the SBOL standard and serves as a launchpad for more detailed designs involving simulations and experiments. Some new features in SBOLDesigner 2.1 are SBOL Stack integration, local repositories, importing of parts/sequences from existing files, import and export of GenBank and FASTA files, extended role ontology support, the ability to partially open designs with multiple root ComponentDefinitions, backward compatibility with SBOL 1.1, and versioning.
SBOLDesigner v2.0
SBOLDesigner 2.0 is a simple, biologist-friendly CAD software tool for creating and manipulating the sequences of genetic constructs using the Synthetic Biology Open Language (SBOL) 2.0 data model.
