Profile

A twenty-four year old Australian British dual-national who has moved back to the UK after ten years in Australia.

I have a burning passion for solving difficult problems. This idea drives both my career and personal life. Up to this point I've studied Theoretical Physics, spent four months in the wilds of Alaska, worked as a consultant Data Analyst and as a researcher at the Houses of Parliament and run a wine cellar for two years.

In August 2016, I decided I wanted to further develop my problem solving capabilities and enrolled at Makers Academy to learn software craftsmanship best practice.

Skills

I am quick to learn

Early on in my time as a consultant data analyst, I was presented with the opportunity to own a project for an existing client using one of their largest data sets. This data set was spread over multiple systems with many individual tables being over several million records. This made it far too large to manage with any existing tool I had used previously.

Within four days I had taught myself enough Base SAS to build a working analytics platform. Within a fortnight the final analysis was completed and presented back to the client alongside a series of upstream recommendations.

I have excellent analytical and logical reasoning

My logic and analytical skills are one of my most valuable assets. I maintained a distinction average [75+] across all core units during my undergraduate studies in Physics, as well as strong results in other units including Non-Linear Mathematics, Partial Differential Equations, Statistics and Cryptology. Overall, I received the equivalent of a first class honours degree.

I built upon these skills during my time at the Kessler Group. My experience working for clients with multiple legacy systems and complicated data pipelines helped me develop the ability to see how systems with many moving parts fit together.

I have strong verbal and non-verbal communication skills

My verbal and non-verbal communication skills are something I have worked hard to improve.

While I worked at the Houses of Parliament, I had the opportunity to work directly for a Member of Parliament on the EU referendum campaign. I was responsible for writing briefing packs, which needed to distill complex technical concepts into digestible notes. I was also responsible for writing speeches which were used both in public and within the chamber of the House of Commons.

During my time at the Kessler Group, I not only undertook analysis, but was also involved in the client-facing side of the business. I have experience delivering technical content to C-level executives at some of Australia's largest companies, as well as managing relationships on an everyday basis.
