Utrecht University

The central place for managing code and software for Utrecht University researchers and employees

Welcome to Utrecht University 👋

Welcome at GitHub@UtrechtUniversity! At Utrecht University, we believe that with open minds, open attitudes and open science, we can create solutions that positively impact us all. Nowadays, technology, data, and software are important cornerstones of these solutions. This GitHub is our place where we, academic and administrative staff, develop and share research code, software, and others. You are invited to contribute to the projects and join forces to a better world.

🔑 I work at Utrecht University and want access!

The GitHub@UtrechtUniversity is open to all researchers, teachers, and employees of Utrecht University. You can get access with your Utrecht University SolisID. After becoming a member you can create Repositories and Teams under the UU GitHub organization. Step-by-step instructions can be found in the Getting Started with GitHub@UtrechtUniversity guide.

Do you have no experience with Git and GitHub? There are lots of resources on the internet to learn working with Git and GitHub. Do you prefer a workshop? The workshop Best Practices for Writing Reproducible Code of the Research Data Management Support office is a great starting point.

The GitHub Education program provides benefits (free developer tools such as GitHub Copilot) for students and teachers. Are you a PhD candidate? You can request a Student Developer pack by sending an email to info.rdm@uu.nl. Postdoctoral researchers and permanent staff may apply for teacher benefits via GitHub Education.

🔑 I study at Utrecht University and want to use GitHub!

To apply for student benefits (Student Developer pack, GitHub Pro and GitHub Copilot) send an email to info.rdm@uu.nl.

Do you have no experience with Git and GitHub? There are lots of resources on the internet to learn working with Git and GitHub. Check our best practices repository as a starting point.

Students are not eligible to become a full member of github.com/UtrechtUniversity, but can be invited as 'outside collaborators' to project Repositories by repository admins (e.g. the creator of a repository). Repository admins can grant students full access to the repository including write and admin permissions, when required.
