The idea would to be to actually base the file off of a regular SVG or Inkscape specific SVG so that it wouldn't be filled with various converted odds and ends. Gets people closer to an editable source file with an open source program.
This does drop font support somewhat, at least the project doesn't rely heavily on specialty fonts.
