JS_REST (For want of a better name).

Problem:
It can be a right pain to make sure the UI stays in sync with the appication state once JS is more heavily used in your app.

Proposed solution:
Provide a simple way to create classes in JS that represent the models in your application and provide access to CRUD actions. Additionally provide a means to trigger code to run when your model is updated.

This repo contains a skeleton rails application to demonstrate how the concept works. Big thanks to John Resig for jQuery and the contents of public/javascript/inheritance.js. In this application I use jQuery.listen too.

I'd love any feedback on how to improve this, so fork away!

Getting started:
- git clone git://github.com/dies-el/js_rest_example.git
- cd js_rest_example
- git submodule init
- git submodule update
- cp config/database.yml.default config/database.yml
- rake db:migrate

BOOM!

This README is sorely lacking, so instead of wibbling away, I'll highlight the important files.

public/javascripts/post.js - Creates a new Post model to use in your code. This file also shows you how to extend the model to include more methods / variables.

public/javascripts/application.js - Contains 'end-user' code. Shows how the user would instantiate a Post, manipulate it and then save / update / destroy.

apps/view/posts/index.html.erb - Contains the JSON structure (at the bottom of the page) that Post populates itself from.

Check your rails defaults (initializers), make sure the following is set:

ActiveRecord::Base.include_root_in_json = false

Have a look about, the application should run without tweaking (script/server) assuming you have rails set up. As yet there are no tests to speak of.
